Why We Wear Black — and why, as a Belagid, you might choose to embrace this timeless dress code.

Why do we wear dull color clothes?

For hundreds of years, the people of the world have been referring to us the people of motherland as 'blacks'. This has lead to the widespread misconception that we are all one color (black). Which is not a fact. In truth, motherland is one of the most genetically diverse places on Earth. Within these lands you will find all possible skin colors— from milk white, caramel brown, chocolate brown, all the way to clay black.

As Belagidds, our monochrome dressing is not just a choice of style— it is a statement. It is a way of highlighting and celebrating our diverse skin tones. With everything on us being dull, we allow our skin's color to pop out without any obstructions. The clothes become like a frame, and the person becomes the artwork. So when Belagidds people gather together, all you see is a spectrum of skin colors within a monochrome frame.

It's about time we own our identity. It's about time we decide for ourselves who we are and who we are not
